Explore the Jewish experience at Fort McHenry with children’s author Tovah S. Yavin. Learn how the events inspired Francis Scott Key and what his famous poem meant to America’s Jewish community at the time. Carry on the fun after the reading with activities for the whole family. Tovah Yavin’s middle-grade novel, All-Star Season, received both the Sydney Taylor Manuscript Award and a 2008 Notable Book Award from the Association of Jewish Libraries. The locations depicted in the book may seem very familiar to residents of the Baltimore and Silver Spring areas. Her article following the Battle of Baltimore Harbor through the experiences of the Jewish soldiers who fought there, “A Star-Spangled New Year,” will be appearing in Highlights Magazine for Children.
