âFinding Documents in Eastern Europeâ and âBringing Family Stories to Life through Videoâ The next meeting of the JGSMD will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2014, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., at HADASSAH (3723 Old Court Road, Suite 205) in Pikesville, MD. The program will be a double-header, featuring presentations by Hanna Berger and Lara Diamond. Lara Diamond, our Co-President and Technology Chair, will talk about some strategies she has used to obtain documents from Ukraineâincluding the hiring of private researchers, crowdsourcing research for specific towns, and utilizing the resources of the Family History Library. These strategies should be applicable to much of Eastern Europe. Hanna Berger, the Program Chair of JGSMD and founder of Bat Ami Strul Productions, will also speak. Genealogy web sites (MyHeritage, Ancestry, FamilySearch, Treelines, etc) are great tools to use for organizing your scribbled notes, but to make those dry notes come alive, to see and hear and smell the world of your ancestors, and to tug at the heartstrings of family, friends, and even strangers, youâll need something more. Join Hanna Berger in exploring how video can bring to life the long-gone world of your ancestors. The program is free for paid members and $5 for non-members (applied to membership fee when a visitor joins JGSMD) after their first meeting. Refreshments will be available. Please check our web site at www.jgsmd.org for late updates and for the time, location, and program of future meetings.
