Rabbi Avraham Yosef Rice, ztâl was the first Rav with Semicha to serve in America. In 1851, he founded a small, strictly Orthodox congregation at his home which eventually grew into Congregation Shearith Israel, laying the groundwork of todayâs Baltimore Torah community. Rabbi Moshe Bamberger is a great-great grandson of the Wurzburger Rav, Râ Yitzchok Dov Bamberger HaLevi. The Wurzburger Rav was a colleague and teacher to Rabbi Rice and fielded sheiâlos sent from America during the 1840âs. SPEAKER: Rabbi Moshe Bamberger is the Mashgiach Ruchani of Bais Medrash LâTalmud (Lander College for Men) in Kew Gardens Hills, N.Y.
