Dr. Moses will be speaking about his new book, Mourning Under Glass: Reflections On A Sonâs Murder, on Sunday December 4 at 7:30 pm in the Main Shul. Dr. Naftali Moses lives in Efrat, Israel and teaches Jewish medical ethics. He has written on philosophy in the Mishnah, Aggadah in the Talmud and death in Israeli society. In 2008, Dr. Mosesâ sixteen-year-old son, Avraham David, was killed while studying in the Mercaz HaRav library in Jerusalem. Dr. Moses will reflect upon the tragic death of his son, and discuss whether attempts at memorial can adequately recall an extinguished life and give voice to the nearly ineffable pain of loss. While speaking about this subject is not easy for him, Dr. Moses does so in paraphrasing Rav Kook, âI do so not because I have the strength to speak, but because I lack the strength to remain silent.â
